Cocoa Dusted Sweet Potatoes

These sweet potatoes are inspired by the folks at Hu Kitchen. Hu offers delicious paleo, gluten-free, and many organic and veggie friendly options in a casual deli style format. I love Hu but dang you can drop some $$$ there quickly. My favorite thing of all on offer at Hu is their sweet potato side. The frugal queen in me decided to make my own copycat version, and they surely delivered.

Update as of the last time I visited Hu Kitchen 6/19/19 - they no longer have the cocoa dusted sweet potatoes at so you have to make mine. Sorry…


Yields: About 4 servings as a side

3 medium sweet potatoes, washed, and diced (peel if desired but I like the skins)

¼ cup cocoa powder

1 tbsp coconut oil

1 tsp cinnamon

S + P


  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

  2. Place sweet potatoes in large bowl and toss with coconut oil.

  3. Pop the potatoes in the oven and roast for 15 mins or until cooked through and crisp.

  4. Remove potatoes from oven and generously sprinkle with cocoa powder and cinnamon and S+P.

  5. Place back in the oven for 5 minutes being careful not to burn the cocoa.

  6. Remove from oven and serve immediately.

I like these potatoes with a little bit of sour cream or greek yogurt!
